What does the Recent Government Announcement Mean for Funerals?

Like a lot of us, you’re probably aware of the most recent government announcement and the hopeful plan to return to normality, but what does this mean for funerals?

The idea of a funeral is difficult enough as it is, but not being able to plan or attend them in the usual way can make the idea of losing someone even more difficult – this is soon about to change!

When can Funerals Continue?

Since the announcement on 22nd February, we know that the 30-person limit still remains. Up to 30 people can continue to attend funerals with social distancing guidelines in place and they are also required to wear a mask throughout the service unless they are medically exempt.

Stone settings and ash scatterings are permitted to 6 people and social distancing still remains for these settings too. As from Monday 12th April, this could increase to 15 people and then a potential 15-30 people from Monday 17th May for these gatherings, including wakes.

Any changes to these restrictions will be subject to COVID data at the time and a reduction in cases and deaths across the UK. The government has announced they’re hoping to remove all social and attendance restrictions as early as 21st June.

We understand that now is a more difficult time than ever, especially if you’re dealing with the loss of somebody close to you. We will be keeping everybody up to date as we begin to find out more information about funeral services going forward and the guidelines in place.
